The City of Moab will be holding an open house on Tuesday, Dec. 3, to discuss the aesthetics and features of a proposed parking structure to be built in downtown Moab. The meeting will be held at the Moab City Council Chambers, 217 E. Center St., from 5 to 7 p.m.
The planned parking structure, which will be paid for by funding from the Utah Transportation Commission, will be located on the site of the existing city-owned parking lot on Center Street, between Main Street and 100 West.
The City identified this as the best location for additional parking due to its proximity to local businesses and the downtown area. The City hopes to begin construction of the parking structure in the fall of 2020.
“The parking structure will be an important asset for downtown businesses, employees and the customers they serve,” said Moab City Engineer Chuck Williams. “We hope local residents will attend the open house on Dec. 3 to help guide the City in selecting aesthetic features to enhance the visual character of the structure.”
Aesthetic and structure feature ideas will be on display and a formal presentation will be given at 5:30 p.m. by the project team.
An online survey will be available at https://tinyurl.com/moabparkingstructure to gather community feedback on the proposed aesthetic and structure feature concepts. The survey will be open for public feedback from Dec. 3 through Dec. 17.
“It’s not every day that we have an opportunity to secure funding like this from the Utah Transportation Commission,” said Moab City Manager Joel Linares. “The Utah Legislature has recognized that increasing tourism has created unique challenges for Moab, and I believe our community will benefit directly from having the downtown parking structure.”
