KUER public radio in Utah is bringing local news stories to life for listeners statewide with a recent announcement about a new editor, and new bureaus opening in rural parts of the state.
For fans of the long-running KUER talk show “RadioWest,” Elaine Clark is a familiar name. Host Doug Fabrizio has mentioned her in the show’s closing credits a grand total of 1,959 times. Now, after nearly 15 years as a producer on the award-winning interview program, Clark has a new role at the Salt Lake City-based NPR member station. As of June 17, she is KUER’s managing editor for news.
“I’m excited to work with KUER’s talented reporting team,” Clark said. “There are so many great Utah stories to tell, and I’m honored to have a continued role in bringing those to life for our listeners.”
As managing editor, Clark will work with news director Andrew Becker to oversee the newsroom’s 14-member staff, including reporters based at KUER’s studios in Salt Lake City and two new bureaus opening in southern Utah. Reporter Kate Groetzinger will be based in Blanding and cover issues in San Juan County and throughout the region. Reporter David Fuchs will cover southwest Utah from the bureau in St. George. Both staffers are participants with Report for America, a service program that sends journalists to report on under-covered issues and communities around the country.
Listeners in Moab can tune to 90.1FM or stream online at kuer.org and with KUER’s mobile app.
In Moab, KUER recently aired a segment about camping at Klondike Bluffs called “More Poop On Public Lands Prompts Federal Agencies To Clamp Down On Dispersed Camping.”
Based in Salt Lake City, KUER is an NPR member station heard statewide. Its newsroom is currently surveying listeners about the issues that the bureaus should cover. To participate, go to KUER.org and look for “Community Feedback Form” under the “about” tab.
