Oscar Antillon will take over the supervision of Moab’s infrastructure later this month.
As Moab’s public works director, he will work closely with division superintendents and oversee all divisions of the department, which include streets, parks, sewer, water, storm drainage and wastewater reclamation.
He is currently a project manager for the NASA Research Park at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California.
The City of Moab announced in a press release on Monday, June 10, that Oscar Antillon accepted the position of public works director and will begin working for the City on June 24.
“I am humbled and honored by the opportunity to join the City of Moab and continue to help drive Moab’s vision for the future,” Antillon said. “I look forward to getting to know Moab’s leadership, the public works team, and residents, and building on the success of the Public Works Department in serving the community.”
Moab Mayor Emily Niehaus said the city has “an amazing public works team.
“The sewer, streets, water, parks, facilities, and wastewater reclamation facility superintendents do a terrific job managing our infrastructure,” Niehaus said. “I am excited to welcome Oscar Antillon to lead this team by fostering solidarity and exploring innovation.”
According to the press release, Antillon has extensive experience in public works management, having served as the public works manager for the city of Dublin, California, as well as public works director for the Sembawang Naval Base in Singapore.
He was also the director of facilities for the Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California, and has held a variety of engineering, public works and facilities positions within the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
“I have to admit, my passion for public service is complemented really well in Moab with my passion for the outdoors, and I am also looking forward to enjoying all of those things that Moab is known for,” Antillon said.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Utah and a master’s degree in information science and technology management from the Naval Postgraduate School.
