The local nonprofit Grand Area Mentoring held a nutrition training workshop at Helen M. Knight Elementary school on April 4. The workshop covered nutrition information about fats, sugars, the importance of eating balanced meals throughout the day and how to properly read labels. The workshop was followed by a tour of Moonflower Community Cooperative. Grand Area Mentoring’s adult mentors meet with local students in one-on-one settings to encourage growth and bolster self-confidence. Their weekly sessions sometimes include board games, basketball and computers. Other matches pursue crafts, reading and talking about life
