The City of Moab announces the addition of Nora Shepard to the city’s planning department. Shepard will join the city staff as the new planning director beginning on April 15.
Shepard currently serves as the senior planner for the city of Saratoga Springs, Utah. Previously, she has been the planning division director for Salt Lake City, the Summit County community development director as well as that county’s principal planner, and held a variety of planning positions, including planning director, in Park City.
During her career, Shepard has worked extensively in long-range planning and has coordinated and overseen all aspects of the land-use approval process and project reviews. She has managed several planning departments, and is experienced in hiring employees and developing department budgets.
“Nora’s diverse experience and her enthusiasm for taking on Moab’s planning and land-use challenges make her a great fit for the city,” Moab Mayor Emily Niehaus said. “We’re excited to have her join our staff.”
Shepard has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners since 1989, and served on that national organization’s board of directors for four years. She also served two terms as the president of the Utah Chapter of the American Planning Association.
“I am so lucky to be able to move to Moab and serve the community as planning director. I hope this will be a perfect fit for me and the city,” Shepard said. “I am happy to be able to bring my years of experience in community planning to such a unique place. And I get to live here, too.”
