Ranch hands with about 600 cattle on public lands have been moving herds to different grazing areas along state Route 313 north of Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point State Park. David Hunzeker said on Feb. 23 that ranch hands had been in the area for three or four days moving cattle to a second cattle guard. Hunzeker said his family’s Idaho-based ranch, Fred W. Hunzeker and Sons, has been ranching for several generations. Despite the cattle walking along the edge of the highway, several vehicles, including a Hyundai Elantra with Nevada plates, slowed down only slightly to yield to the ranch hands and the cattle. “Just be careful when you see the cows on the road, that’s all we ask,” Hunzeker said.
