Wrestlers compete at state tournament

The Grand County High School wrestling team had four grapplers compete at the UHSAA Utah State 3A Wrestling Championship tournament at Utah Valley University in Orem, which took place Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 and 16. All four Grand County High School (GCHS) Red Devil wrestlers were eliminated on the first day of the tournament.

Senior Jarom Shumway, wrestling at 220 pounds, was the only GCHS wrestler to record a victory, winning his first-round match by pinfall. Shumway, however, lost in the quarterfinals in sudden death to Emery’s Braden Howard, before being ousted in the consolation round by 7-4 decision against Manti’s Spencer Colburn. GCHS also had a trio of sophomores competing as Jimmie Johnson at 132 pounds, Dylan Harrison at 152 pounds and Jaymmin Hester at 285 pounds, all lost both their first round matches and their consolation matches by pinfall.
