The Moab Nationals, under first-year coach Kyle Sutton, went 5-0 at the annual Pinto League tournament, taking home the tournament title. The team played three teams from Blanding: the Braves, the Cubs and the Yankees, first in pool play, then in a single-elimination tournament based seeded based on pool play results. In the first game of pool play, the Nationals beat the Cubs 17-1. Catcher Jason Mckinney hit a first-inning home run. In the second game, the Nationals defeated the Braves 6-3 despite allowing three runs in the first inning. In the third game of pool play, the Nationals beat the Yankees 15-2, scoring eight runs in the first inning. Because they went 3-0 in pool play, the Nationals earned the No. 1 seed, playing the Yankees again in the first round, this time winning 8-4. In the title game, the Nationals beat the Cubs 16-4.
