Moab woman patents funnel

Moab resident and triathlete Floyd Humphreys will be debuting a nutrition supplement funnel in June at the largest fitness trade show in the United States.

According to a press release, Humphreys and her daughter, Donna — who is also a triathlete — invented, manufactured and patented a small paper foil funnel used for adding supplements to water bottles after Donna duct-taped a makeshift funnel together before a triathlon. Before long, according to a press release, other family members and friends were asking for funnels, too and the mother-daughter duo launched Funnel Your Energy. The funnel will debut at the Idea Trade Show, the largest fitness show in the U.S., at the San Diego Convention Center June 28-30.

Humphreys became a rancher along the Colorado River after running an interior design business in New York and Connecticut for more than 20 years. She and her daughter, Donna, are triathletes, who compete in races all over the United States. According to a press release, Donna has represented Team Mexico in the World Triathlon Series Finals the past four years.

According to a press release, the company hopes to have the funnel available in packages of bottled water and nutritional supplements. Manufactures of both have expressed an interest, and the common response has been “why didn’t I think of that?”

The company has its own website, funnelyourenergy.com, and Floyd Humphreys said the company is applying to be on “Sharktank,” a business-themed reality show.

“We have a friend from the East Coast who made it on the show with her company “Fat Ass” Chocolates,” Humphreys said. “Her advice – ‘Be patient.’ It could take as long as two years.”

Humphreys said she is energized by the entire business process.

“Family and friends are what drive me,” Humphreys said. “I have enjoyed not only the creativity of making the funnel a reality, but building the team that has made that possible.
