Dear Editor:
Reading the story about the dog that was killed in the beaver trap was tragic (Teen’s dog killed in illegal beaver trap near trailhead,” Feb. 22-28, 2018 Moab Sun News). There should be a severe punishment for setting an illegal trap. Where this tragedy happened is a very popular area. We have taken visitors to this area.
The Moab Area Travel Council has done a fantastic job of luring tourists to Moab. Has anybody noticed that many of these tourists have dogs? And children?
If Moab wants to advertise itself as a wonderful vacation destination, trapping should not be allowed close to trails, roads, town, etc. What’s going to happen when a child gets severely injured in a trap?
