Dear Editor:
I would like to reach out to our wonderful community for help in substitute teaching in our schools; HMK, the middle school and the high school need our help!
A couple of weeks ago my daughter asked me to go into school to help mark papers. My daughter’s teacher was distressed as she had called in sick that morning but was told she could not take the day off as there were no available substitute teachers. The day before she had had an operation and was still in pain. It dawned on me, I was available to help and it could make a difference for a teacher in need.
The pay is minimal, but you do get paid; the going rate is $10.00 an hour. If you do have a day or two open and are looking to do something for your community, this is a great opportunity to give back. You can choose which schools you would like to support, and it is extremely flexible. Sometimes staff have advance notice when they will be absent, and you will have plenty of notice; oftentimes, like in the case of my daughter’s teacher, the district office will call you the morning of, at 6:45 a.m.
The middle/high school day is 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Elementary school hours are 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with time allotted to eat lunch during the day.
I have loved going into the middle school and high school as a substitute teacher and getting to know our kids. We badly need to support our teachers, who in turn help our children. If you are interested, please contact Susan Feichko at 435-259-5317.
