Freshman Evan Ellison’s 17:00.4 rang in as the fourth fastest freshman time in the state, regardless of classification, and was good for fifth overall in the 2A race at the UHSAA Utah State Cross Country Championships on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City. Following close behind Ellison, sophomore Ryan Lewis placed seventh at 17:03.7. Cameron Wakefield (33rd, 18:11.2), Braxten Pierce (57th, 18:59.8) and Mackay Wakefield (75th, 19:42.2) rounded out Grand’s top five, giving them a sixth-place total of 150 points. Millard won the state title with a score of 72. Also running for Grand, Aaron Hawks placed 76th at 19:45.6 and Tyrese Stash placed 82nd at 20:14.1. For the girls, freshman Ali Hirt placed 10th at 20:14.3, the third fastest freshman time in 2A, while senior Jayelen Knowles placed 27th at 20:58.2.
