The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office detained a protester last weekend near the site of Canadian company U.S. Oil Sands’ PR Spring Mine in the Book Cliffs northeast of Moab. Ten people were arrested on Saturday, June 11, and charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass, during an event that Utah Tar Sands Resistance described as a “family campout” on the Tavaputs Plateau. The arrests followed U.S. Oil Sands’ recent announcement that it has resumed full-scale construction work at the mine site.
