The American Legion Auxiliary’s Unit #54 of Moab has selected the winners of its “Americanism” essay contest. This year’s essay title was, “How do we keep Lincoln’s promise to our veterans and their families?”

Kiersten Kimmerle won first place in the seventh- and eighth-grade division, followed by Alezea Cothern in second place and Gabriell Boyd in third place. Kiersten’s essay was sent to District 5, where she received a first-place blue ribbon. At the state level, she received a certificate of honorable mention.

The winners of the fifth- and sixth-grade division from Helen M. Knight Elementary are Natalie Haase in first place, followed by Madison Butler in second place and Hallie Packard in third place. Natalie is a student in Mrs. Carter’s fifth-grade class; Madison is in Mrs. Leavitt’s sixth-grade class; and Hallie is in Mrs. Nichols’ sixth-grade class.

Unit #54 awards cash prizes to the winners, and gives a flag pin on each student who submitted an essay. The unit’s members thanked the teachers and students for supporting the Americanism essay program each year.
