Helen M. Knight Elementary School third-graders inspect a bale of cans during their tour of the Community Recycling Center. During the last weeks of May, all of the third grade and special education students from HMK toured the facility and learned about community recycling. Students learned about the entire “recycle cycle” from start to finish, and saw first-hand the part that takes place in Moab. The students followed their recycling from HMK to the Community Recycle Center, and saw how recycling gets sorted and baled in preparation for shipping to recycling facilities. “It’s a real delight to show some of Moab’s youngest recyclers how the process works here. Plus, everyone loves to see things crushed in the baler.” said Abby Scott, Canyonlands Community Recycling program director. [Photo courtesy of Abby Scott]
