Moab resident Bernard A. Broughton, 92, was killed in a car accident on Monday, April 1.
Broughton was driving northbound at approximately 1075 S. Main St. when his Ford pick-up drifted to the right shoulder and struck a parked, empty flatbed trailer. Broughton’s truck began to roll and side-swiped the parked truck attached to the trailer. Broughton’s truck then rolled onto its side and stopped next to another truck and trailer also parked on the shoulder of the road.
Neither of the parked trucks and trailers were occupied at the time of the crash.
Broughton was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Investigators are trying to determine whether a medical condition contributed to the accident, or whether he was talking on the phone at the time of the crash.
