Grand County High School’s students of the month for March 2013 are Sarah Quigley and Jackson Knowles.
Quigley, a senior, is the daughter of Brian and Charlotte Quigley. She lists English and drama as her favorite classes.
Quigley was named a runner-up in the Speech and Drama category at the regional Sterling Scholar competition held on March 5.
During high school, Quigley has been involved in various sports and activities. She has participated in soccer, swimming, golf, and debate. She was academic all-region in soccer and took first place in region in oratory in debate. She also is involved in student government and is a member of the National Honor Society.
After graduating from high school, Quigley says she plans to attend college and major in international studies and communications.
Knowles is a junior. He is the son of John and Jacque Knowles. He lists jazz band, English, and history as his favorite classes in school.
Knowles said his most challenging subject is math.
A distance runner, Knowles has been involved in cross-country and track, and was a member of the Red Devils’ state championship track teams in 2011 and 2012. He also swam on Grand County High’s first-ever swim team this winter.
Knowles is also an accomplished musician, and has played in the jazz band and the marching band. He received a superior rating at region solo and ensemble and an excellent rating at state.
Knowles also was co-chairman of junior prom, helping plan and organize the event. He was also crowned prom king at the dance, which was held on March 2.
A member of the National Honor Society, Knowles also belongs to the school’s HOPE Club and Earth Club,
After high school, Knowles says he plans to attend college and major in either the medical or engineering fields.
