– As reported to Meredith Mirrington
John Geiger knows how to play – as well he should – he’s the recreation director for the City of Moab. As you’ll read in his 20 Questions, he’s been a fan of sports and recreation throughout his life and he continuously seeks the balance between work and play in everyday life. And, while he thinks professional surfers are “living the life” – he is beyond content with life as he knows it in Moab with his young son, Ethan, and wife, Faye.
1) What initially brought you to Moab?
An Environmental Education Masters program with Canyonlands Field Institute, and the desert rivers!

Recreation director for the City of Moab.
5) If you could have any job in the world, what would you most like to do?
Professional surfers seem to have it pretty good, but I’ll stick where I am.
6) Describe a typical day in your life.
Every day is different but usually involves a morning mountain bike ride; breakfast and play time with my son, Ethan, and wife, Faye; plenty of meetings and phone conversations with staff, volunteer coaches and parents; time on the game fields in the evenings; and, hopefully, a little time at night hanging out with my family or playing music.
