Man on the Street: Length of the school day

School days are shorter for elementary school students in Grand County Public Schools than they are for students at schools elsewhere across the country.

What do you think of the length of the school day? Too short? Just right?

HMK releases at 12:45 p.m. Mondays for all grades, at 2:15 p.m. other days for kindergarten and first-graders, and at 3:15 p.m. other days for all other grades.

 — “I’d like it to be shorter because I only work until noon. I go to the park or to my daughter’s house to wait for school to get out. I always thought school hours were way too long. When I was in high school, we only went half days.” – Barbara Reed, La Sal.

 — “I actually really like it because Mondays are hard on everybody. This is a good way to break into the week. I have a shorter day on Monday and it’s nice on me, too.” – Regan Ballard, Moab.

 — “When I was in school, all the kindergartners only went half day. That’s better. Five years old is too young to go all day.” – Ariane Buell-Schoenman, Moab.
