A team from the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education made its first visit to the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project this month to independently verify that the federal government’s cleanup is working as intended.
Senator Curtis and Representative Kennedy introduced legislation to transfer the nearly-remediated Moab uranium site to Grand County’s control, giving local authorities the opportunity to repurpose the 480-acre riverside property for community benefit.
The Moab Museum explores local history, including the uranium tailings cleanup at the UMTRA site, managed by the Department of Energy. The site addresses waste from the Atlas Mill, which operated from 1956 to 1984.
