Student of the Month: Celebrating Oakley Ricks and Kelvin Rawson

The Moab Sun News is proud to announce the Student of the Month for October: Oakley Ricks and Kelvin Jefferey Randall Rawson, both 10th graders at Grand County High School.

Oakley Ricks, the daughter of Danielle and Joel Ricks, stands out as a talented and dedicated student. Her favorite class is Band, where she enjoys playing music and exploring new instruments, allowing her to express her creativity. She also participates in various activities, including varsity tennis, FFA, FCCLA, drama club, and was honored with a first-place award in region for her pantomime.

Beyond academics, Oakley volunteers at a summer camp for kids with cancer, exemplifying her commitment to community service. A valuable lesson she learned at school is that “you can do a lot more than you think you can.”

After high school, Oakley plans to pursue a degree in exotic veterinary medicine and encourages her peers, saying, “Believe in yourself and do what you want to do; don’t let other people hold you back.” Teachers commend Oakley for being a positive influence in her school.

Kelvin Jefferey Randall Rawson, son of Samantha Denney and Sean Rawson, is also making a significant impact at GCHS. His favorite classes are Debate and English, where he appreciates the interactive environment created by his teachers. Kelvin is active in DECA and the Debate team, demonstrating his commitment to growth and participation.

His future aspirations include studying psychology through art. To his peers, Kelvin advises, “Don’t congregate in the halls during passing periods; it’s infuriating!” His teachers praise his engagement and positive influence in the classroom, confident that he will make a meaningful impact on the world in the future.

Both Oakley and Kelvin are shining examples of what it means to be a great student at GCHS, showcasing talent, dedication, and a sense of community.
