A letter to the editor from Cristin Hofhine
In recent weeks, I have found myself at the center of a very public conversation about leadership, respect, and the treatment of those who serve our community. The coverage has been both humbling and daunting. To have one’s work placed under the public lens is not easy. But what emerged from that moment is something I will not soon forget – the overwhelming support of this community.
The messages, calls, and quiet words of encouragement I have received are more than gestures of kindness. They are reminders of why public service matters. Each note of support affirms that the work of keeping local government steady, often done quietly and without recognition, does not go unseen. It belongs not just to me, but to every county employee who shows up each day with commitment and care.
This moment has underscored a truth: institutions can falter, but community endures. The strength of Grand County does not rest solely in ordinances or agendas, but in the people who hold each other up when circumstances threaten to wear us down.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all who have stood with me and with the employees who keep this county running. Your support is not only personally meaningful, it is a call to remember that respect, accountability, and dignity must remain at the heart of public life.
Public service is often called thankless work, but I have learned otherwise. The gratitude I have received from this community is real and powerful. It has turned what could have been only hardship into renewed purpose. Your support proves that this valley values those who serve.
Together, let’s insist that County leadership does the same.
