June 3, 1927 – August 8, 2025
Alvin H. Starbuck passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus at the Peakview Assisted Living Facility in Centennial, Colorado, on August 8, 2025, at the age of 98.
Alvin was born to Ralph Starbuck and Gladys Collins Starbuck in Independence, Indiana, on June 3, 1927, as the youngest child of three.
He completed high school and, in 1945, joined the Navy, serving in the Philippines. He then followed his parents to Moab, Utah, where they had purchased a motel and an appliance store. In July of 1946, he met Alice Fern Cleaveland and they married on July 9, 1947.
Al and Alice moved to Salt Lake City where they settled down and raised three children. He got a job at Central Auto, starting as a “gopher” changing tires. He also worked for Mountain Bell in 1950 as a lineman, retiring in 1983 as an assistant engineer. They moved back to Moab in 1985.
Al and Alice loved camping, fishing, boating and water skiing, trips to the National Parks, cruising on their Gold Wing Honda motorcycle, building a cabin, snowmobiling, arrowhead and rock hunting on their ATV, to name a few. They enjoyed their life together.
Alvin was a singer and a guitar player. He had a great sense of humor and a big laugh. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend.
Al also had a great love for God. He says he walked in the wilderness for several years, but when he came back to God, he was all-in, and was an inspiration to many.
Al and Alice were married for 73 years. Not long after her death in 2021, Alvin moved to Aurora, Colorado, with his daughter, Cissie, then eventually into assisted living. His positive attitude and playful personality made him a favorite of the staff and residents!
Alvin is survived by his son, Dee Starbuck (Tari); his daughter, Cissie Mullaney; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Cleaveland Starbuck; his daughter, Linda Starbuck; his sister, Bea Starbuck Barker; his brother, Dale Starbuck; his granddaughter, Skylie Starbuck; his grandson, Clayton Schneider; and his son-in-law, Jim Mullaney.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 22 at 10 a.m. at the Canyonlands Fellowship Church. Burial with military rites will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
