The Moab Area Housing Task Force is launching a new series of quarterly evening meetings to increase community involvement in Moab housing issues, starting with a public event on Tuesday, July 30 at 6 p.m. at the Moab Arts Center (111 E 100 N).

Organizers say the new format is meant to bring in perspectives from residents who haven’t been able to attend the task force’s regular monthly meetings, typically held at 11:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month. By shifting some meetings to the evening, the Task Force hopes to make its work more accessible to working residents and potential volunteers.

The July 30 event will begin with a short presentation on two ongoing projects: a community housing survey and a housing data dashboard. The dashboard is designed to help track housing trends, measure policy outcomes, and make local data easier for the public to use, according to Kaitlin Myers, taskforce chair and head of the Moab Area Community Land Trust.

A panel discussion will follow the presentation, featuring representatives from organizations involved in housing. Panelists will discuss recent accomplishments, major goals, and hurdles to developing affordable housing.

“We’ve set a challenge for ourselves to host four evening meetings each year,” Myers said. “We want to make it easier for residents who work during the day or who haven’t been involved before to share their experiences and ideas.”

Monthly Task Force meetings will continue at their usual time, but these quarterly evening events are intended to serve as broader community check-ins. Future gatherings are expected to focus on specific topics, such as new or amended housing ordinances, Task Force project updates, or revisions to the 2023 Grand County Affordable Housing Plan.

The event is free and open to the public. Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share ideas. Meeting notes and materials will be available after the event for those who can’t attend in person.
