August 7, 1957 – December 9, 2024
In the wee morning hours on Monday, December 9, 2024, my Cowboy, my Everything woke up after a really hard day on Sunday. He started talking about all the places we traveled and all the things we accomplished during our six short years of marriage. I asked him if he had anything else he would like to do on this Earth. He said, “No, baby. I am tired of the pain.”
I told him to sleep sweetly with the angels, and he said, “Baby, you are my Angel.” I said, “Then sleep with me.” Somewhere between 5:30 and 5:50 a.m., I woke up and he didn’t. He will forever be my Cowboy, my Everything, and I’ll forever be his Angel.
James Earle Nash was born in Moab at Allen Memorial Hospital to Alvin Erwin Nash II and Frances Louise Thornton on August 7, 1957.
James, aka Jimmy or Jim Nash, was a very loving, kind and caring man. He loved his family, his community, his job, and he never knew a stranger.
In the spring of 1981, James met Belinda Brown. With her came two little boys: John was 4 years old and there was soon to be Lil James, born in the fall of 1981. James was very honored and proud to fulfill his dream of being a dad and he reared up two wonderful sons.
In 1983, James felt a calling to serve his community so he joined the Moab Valley Fire Department, where he remained a member for 41 years. Often, he was asked why he stayed in the department so long. His answer always was: “I love my brothers and sisters and the brotherhood that I belong too.”
James had lots of occupations through the years, but his last, which lasted nearly 25 years, was being a meat cutter at our local market. He had 19 years at Village Market in Moab. He loved all of his Village Market family. He was so filled with love and pride when the owners would come into the store and seek him out.
James loved all animals, domestic and wild. He had a few pets through the years. He eventually got a long-haired German shepherd who was born in Germany and named him Jarman. James was an active member of Grand County Search and Rescue for many years and trained him to be a rescue/search dog. Jarman was an integral part of his life.
James loved his family, he was so excited to become a dad, a papa and a great-papa just 2 years ago.
James loved to hunt, camp, draw, and paint and was a wonderful carpenter. He loved his guns and took pride in each one of them.
James always talked fondly of his brothers and his baby sister. He would reminisce about his oldest brother, Alvin, being a Marine and an Eagle Scout and always held him in high admiration.
Every time we saw a gas tanker truck on our many journeys, he would say, “I wonder where my brother Terry is delivering fuel today.” He would occasionally call him and they would talk about horses, guns, hunting, and YouTube videos, and their combined love of country music.
Last, but not least, James would say, “Let’s call my sister Yvonne, I haven’t heard from her in a few days.” So we would call her and Larry and chat about goats, kitties, horses, and just about everything.
He spoke highly of his family and his friends. When we met new people, he would want to show them around places, and we went on some new adventures with new friends.
James fulfilled so many things in his life that I could literally write a book.
James Nash and I have been best friends for 45 years. I was very blessed to be in his life and to become his wife on December 4, 2018, at which time he gained three more sons: Scott, David and “Bobby.”
James Nash is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Erwin Nash II and Frances Louise Thornton Davis; his step-fathers, Jim Lanphere and also “Hub” Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Madge L Nash; his brothers, Alvin (Janette) and Terry Nash; his sister, Yvonne (Larry) Adams; and his Davis family brothers and sisters: Steve, Jeff, Jim, Marilyn and Maria.
He is also survived by his five sons, John & James Brown, and Scott, David and “Bobby.” He also had one gal who he called his one and only daughter, Tori (Kevin) Bozarth. Last, but not least, he leaves his loving legacy to his grandchildren: Brennen, Jenna (Jeremiah) Caden, Dylan, Shelby, Raddix, Kaidin, Keaton, and David.
He was blessed to become a great-papa to little Miss Ellie Rae and will be an Angel Papa to a new great-granddaughter to be born in May 2025.
James loved his nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families and always spoke highly of his Nash ancestry.
James Nash was very well-loved and will be missed by everyone that ever crossed his path!
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 11 a.m. at Saint Francis Episcopal Church (250 Kane Creek Boulevard) followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
