Monday, November 11, was a beautiful day for the Moab area’s honoring of its Veterans. The Delicate Stitchers Quilt Guild wanted to also honor our Veterans by making small quilted wall flags to present at the annual ceremony.
Each year, the incoming president of the Quilt Guild sets a service project for the year. President Mary Wakeley asked Guild members to make small Bargello flag quilts. Bargello is a style of piecing that gives each flag the appearance of waving in a breeze. Our deadline was met and 103 quilted flags were made! Guild members distributed the flags to Veterans at ceremonies in Castle Valley, the Canyonlands Care Center and at the Grand County Courthouse.
Delicate Stitchers Quilt Guild was formed in 1998, and we celebrated our 25th anniversary last year. Anyone is invited to join! Members range from beginners to expert, and there are opportunities for everyone to learn something new. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at the Grand Center. Meetings start at 6:00 with a half hour social. The actual meeting starts at 6:30. Lessons are presented on a variety of subjects and techniques, and there is an opportunity to show projects completed or in progress. A “Sew Saturday” is held most Saturdays after the Guild meeting, with open sewing for those who want to work on their own projects. A lesson of some kind is sometimes offered.
