Meow to my friends and fellow music lovers, it’s Cosmo the library cat again. If you’ve ever been in the Grand County Public Library after hours and heard me warble out my favorite tune, you’ll understand why I tend to keep my music practice private. No, there’s not a pack of coyotes on the loose, just me mangling “The Girl from Ipanema.” I may not sound great, but I’m gonna keep working on it. I think it’s important to express yourself and have fun no matter what, which is why I’m excited to invite the young humans to a Musical Story Hour on Saturday, September 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Moab Library.
Our friends Kate Clark and Nicole Cornelius are excited to share their love of music with the kiddos! These two music enthusiasts will teach basics like rhythm, pitch, and tempo using stories, songs, games, and crafts.
I’ve observed that children are naturally responsive to music, and I’ve been quite impressed by what our younglings can do with a little guidance and some egg shakers and rhythm sticks. That’s Bossa Nova, baby! Seeing a kid’s music knowledge and appreciation develop with fun hands-on activities really warms the cockles of my heart. Who knows, we may be nurturing the next Astrud Gilberto!
This free event is geared towards children from newborns on up, along with their caregivers, but all ages are welcome. Musical Story Hour is presented in partnership with the Moab Music Festival with additional support from the Synergy Company.
