Moab Sun News reader Kelsey Koprowski sent in these snaps of an American White Pelican at Ken’s Lake, south of Moab. Pelicans are quite unusual in Grand County, said Brandon Behling, Utah Department of Wildlife Resources Southeastern Region outreach manager. While pelicans are often seen in northern Utah, Scofield Reservoir in Carbon County is the location closest to Moab where they normally congregate.
In fact, the DWR has no record of any of their monitored pelicans visiting Ken’s Lake before, Behling said. Could this one be a pioneer?
