Art Walk this weekend

Downtown Moab will be buzzing with artists this weekend, as Le Petit Plein Air Moab continues and Moab Art Walk returns one last time this year on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Moab Arts and Recreation Center at 111 E. 100 North will be featuring plein air art from more than 50 local and regional plein air painters, as well as third- and fourth-graders from Helen M. Knight Elementary School. Drop by the MARC to see how Moab’s landscapes are interpreted through art.

Take a peek into the mind of “whacked-out” artist Sean-Paul Schulte at Moonflower Community Cooperative, 39. E. 100 North. His abstract water colors are presented as Celestial Landscapes, a two part series; first in the series Celestial Quakes and second Celestial Reports. Schulte will also be “banging out” and handing out impromptu art with small post card size gift cards

Bret Edge’s images at the Edge Gallery hope to inspire others to wander into the wilderness, to go for a road trip to a national park or just sit at the edge of a desert canyon watching a sunset. The Edge Gallery is located at 137 N. Main St.

At Gallery Moab, the guest artist for the month is Jacci Weller. She paints floral scenes in glowing acrylic. She is represented by a gallery in Arizona and shouldn’t be missed. Thea Nordling and Sarah Hamingson are two outstanding pastel artists, with growing reputations of their renderings of Moab-area scenery. Gallery Moab is located at 87 N. Main St.

Tom Till’s photos of the Southwest capture the ephemeral beauty of the desert’s shift into winter. The changing season brings a whole new light with which to appreciate the unique environment of the canyon country, and a quiet reflection on life here. To celebrate this special season, join the gallery for Art Walk and enjoy a 30 percent discount. Tom Till Gallery is located at 61 N. Main St.

Triassic at 7 N. Main St. will be featuring the work of local resident Julia Buckwalter, whose oil paintings portray the state’s national parks and their profoundly dramatic beauty. Her work captures the grandeur of epic clouds, towering canyon walls and the brilliance of color in land and sky.

The Framed Image at 59 E. Center St. is showcasing fine, hand-crafted jewelry by Winston Gamble, raku pottery by Tammy Lane, contemporary and abstract oils by Karen Barnett, traditional oil landscapes by Tim Morse and more.

Finally, the Museum of Moab at 118 E. Center St. is featuring the show “Paintings that Explore the Colorado Plateau” by Grand Junction landscape artist and part-time Moab resident George Callison.
