Decision to allow deadly raffle item was ill-advised

Dear Editor,

An incident at the Grand Center’s gift show has prompted this letter. Namely, the ill-advised decision to allow an illegal raffle for an assault weapon, the same type used in the California killings. To get around the Utah raffle laws, tickets were being given with a donation. But if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it’s a duck! I am not disputing the good intentions of folks trying to raise money for a worthy cause. I am disputing the presence of an instrument of death amongst the hand-painted gourds, knitted baby blankers and teddy bears. Last month: Paris. Last week: Colorado. This week: California. Can Moab be far behind?
