The Moab Valley Fire Protection District’s Firefighter of the Year firefighter James O. McGann, a 33-year veteran of the district.
This year marks the second time that he has received the district’s Firefighter of the Year award.
He resides in Moab with his wife of 21 years, Mary McGann. Together, they have four children: Brenden, Kirsten, John and Paul.
James McGann moved to Moab from northwestern Indiana in 1981.
He joined the Moab Valley Fire Department in 1983, and officials say he has been a very important part of the Moab Valley Fire Department over the years. McGann has served alongside four of his brothers, Pat, Kevin, Terry and Matt, who were also firefighters in Moab.
Fire district officials say McGann has always been very involved in all aspects of the fire department, serving as a lieutenant, and on multiple committees. He has also assisted in the planning of local fire conventions.
“James has gone above and beyond the normal duties of a firefighter in trainings and in the daily operations of the fire department,” the district said in a statement announcing his award. “His dedication, loyalty, and hard work have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers.”
In his downtime, McGann enjoys outdoor activities, including rafting, fishing, golfing and playing hockey.
