Staff at Grand County High School have named Mia McKay and Hayden Yanito their final students of the month for the 2023-2024 school year.
Senior Mia McKay (Parents Carrie McKay, Jon McKay and Katheryn Blitz) plans on attending Westminster University in Salt Lake City next fall after receiving a scholarship to run on their track and cross country teams. She’s run on Grand County High School track team every year of high school in addition to playing on the Red Devils soccer team and participating in basketball, swim, and the concert band when her schedule has allowed.
Mia also engages with the running community outside of school, volunteering for the Moab Trail Marathon and the Canyonlands Half Marathon as well as coaching youth athletes with Francis Coaching and helping put on the annual Zeke Francis youth track meet.
Mia is a member of the National Honor Society and loves academic classes where the information is engaging, keeping the learning process “fresh and exciting.” She keeps herself grounded even with all her achievements; “It’s not that deep” is her personal motto.
Junior Hayden Yanito (parents Conrad and Ramona Yanito) is deeply passionate about music and that shows in his school commitments. He gives credit to band teacher Joshua Jensen for “guiding me on this musical journey.”
