On Sunday May 12, at approximately 5 pm, a fast moving brush fire broke out on the east side of
Thompson Springs. The fire was burning on both sides of the railroad tracks and immediately
threatened homes in the area. Thanks to the quick action of residents, who utilized 2 of the town’s fire
trucks and a personal tractor, no structures were lost or damaged. The Moab Valley Fire Department,
BLM and State also sent resources to help extinguish the 4.5 acre blaze. The cause of the fire is
under investigation.
