Jimmy Ray Richardson, 79, lost his battle with cancer on April 27, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Jimmy was born May 7, 1935, to Johnny and Lily Dunn Richardson in Hillsboro, Texas. Jimmy married the love of his life Betty Gale Scharf on September 9, 1960. At that time Jimmy had two children, Janet and Tim, from a previous marriage and he took on Betty’s three children, Bobbie, Ann and Jane, loving all of them.
Jimmy worked in the oil fields before getting into the uranium mining in Moab that he did for several years. He then owned and operated the North Main Conoco Service Station.
Jimmy enjoyed hunting, 4-wheeling, hiking, and other outdoor activities and was known as a big prankster, but his greatest joy was being with his family and friends, where he always had stories to tell.
Jimmy and Gale have a cabin in LaSal where they spent most of their time until bad weather would move them back to Moab for the winter, in the home they made together. Jimmy loved to stay busy and always had some kind of project going on.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Betty Gale; siblings Leslie Nicholsen of Mundy, Texas; Marvin Richardson of Morgan, Texas; G.W. (Wanda) Richardson of Peoria, Texas; Jackie Johnson of Waco, Texas; Bobby Richardson of Whitney, Texas; and Joyce Coats of Irdale, Texas. He is also survived by four children: Janet (David) Albin of Aztec, New Mexico; Tim Richardson of Oklahoma; Bobbie J. (Kathy) Washburn of Phoenix, Arizona; Anne (David) Broncheau of Butte, Montana; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jane Stocks Richardson, and siblings Johnnie Richardson, Lois Aulds, Maggie Hambrick and Nell Odom.
A graveside service was held on May 1 at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A viewing was held on April 30 at Spanish Valley Mortuary.
