Robert William Erickson, December 13, 1930 – September 14, 2014

Robert William Erickson passed away on Sept. 14, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., at the age of 83. He was born in Quincy, Mass. on Dec. 13, 1930.

Robert “Bob” Erickson married Flora Macleod on Oct. 18, 1959 in Long Beach, Calif., after they met through friends playing volleyball on the beach. Upon completing a master’s degree from the University of Southern California in mechanical engineering, he worked for Rockwell International Corporation in aerospace before he became the Power Resources Planner for the City of Anaheim.

Bob was a long-time resident of Moab after moving from Los Alamitos, Calif., in 1993. He and Flora retired here after falling in love with the beauty of serenity of Moab.

Bob was an active member of his church, The Community Church of Moab, serving as head usher and trustee. Bob also gave his time to teach Sunday school to adults sharing his love of God and his passion of the scriptures.

Bob was known to many in Moab for his kind demeanor, generous nature, and captivating story-telling. He could often be seen golfing at the Moab golf course or square dancing with Flora and the Fallen Arches Square Dancing Club.

He is survived by his loving wife Flora Macleod Erickson after 55 years of marriage; and their two daughters, Nancy Jean Erickson and Anne Clare Erickson; son-in-law Paul Thomas Frank; and sister Carolyn Julian. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Anna Erickson, and his brother, Warren Erickson.

A memorial service took place to honor Bob Erickson on Saturday Sept. 20, 2014 at 10 a.m. at The Community Church of Moab, 544 Mi Vida. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the Youth Garden Project, Moab Utah.
