Obituary: Michael Scott Harper

In loving memory of our father, Michael Scott Harper, 72, of Moab, who passed away on April 15, 2023. He was the devoted husband of Gwendolyn and the loving father of Misti, Dawn and Caleb. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Michael was born on January 7, 1951, to Hyla and Paul Harper in Beech Grove, Indiana. In February 1969, he met Gwendolyn and they wed in August 1969, going on to have 3 children.

Michael was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Early in life, our father learned the importance of hard work and he instilled that same work ethic in us. He was always there for us, whenever we needed help. He was unendingly proud of his family and always tried his best to support them. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage. Anyone who knew Michael knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.

Michael was also a passionate self-taught musician, artist, photographer and gardener. He was very talented at anything he put his mind to.

Michael was predeceased by his mother, Hyla; father, Paul; and his sister, Cherri.

He is survived by the love of his life, Gwendolyn; his children, Misti (Chris) Evans, Dawn (Steve) Corn, Caleb (Kendall) Harper; his sister, Cynthia (Mike) Taylor; his 5 grandchildren, Christopher, Dakota, Hunter, Riley, Conner; and 3 great-grandchildren, Ryder, Carson and Eli.

Dad, you are now at peace, but you will live on forever in our hearts. We love you so much. Rest in Peace.
