Cosmo’s Corner: “Chatting with the River Road Raconteur”

Cosmo photoshopped to look like he's sitting on top of a donkey—there's a forlorn cowboy also near the donkey.

Hello friends, it’s your Weekly “Mews” from Cosmo the Library Cat. Castle Valley has a special place in my heart, as it is home to several dear friends of mine. Shout out to Jenny and Gracie! I am therefore excited to announce that local historian and Castle Valley denizen Dave Vaughn, also known as the River Road Raconteur, is coming to the Moab Library on Thursday, April 6 at 6 p.m. Dave has spent countless hours digging through museum archives and collecting stories from old timers—on April 6, he will show us historic photos and tell us of the old days of Castle Valley and the River Road, aka Highway 128.

When the librarians dubbed Dave Vaughn “the River Road Raconteur,” he quipped: “That’s probably the first time I have ever been called a raconteur. I’ve been called many other things in my career with the County Road Department, though!”

If you are interested in local history and enjoy listening to a great storyteller, join us at Grand County Public Library in Moab on April 6 at 6 p.m. The event is free and everyone is welcome, as long as you promise to only call Dave nice things. Meow for now!
