Sharon Marie Shaw Williams returned to her mother and father in Heaven on Dec. 4, 2021, after a struggle to recover from a stroke and finally losing the battle to pneumonia.
Sharon was born on April 3, 1958, in Coalville, Utah, to Melvin Francis and Valeen Ellen Shaw. Growing up with two sisters and no brothers, Sharon loved spending her days outside with her dad, helping him with the livestock and outside chores—anything to avoid going inside to do house chores. She was her father’s son at heart.
She went to school at Utah State University to become a nurse, and there she met her eternal companion, David G. Williams. They were sealed together for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on Sept. 8, 1977. From there, they moved multiple times around the western states, growing their family and following Dave’s career with the Bureau of Land Management. They landed permanently in Moab in 1982.
Sharon loved and supported her family so much. She attended their outdoor adventures like hunting, camping, fishing, hiking and many more. She traveled near and far for her children and grandchildren’s events. She taught 4-H, Girls Scouts, and even was on the school PTA for decades. She was well known in the schools for substitute teaching and was highly regarded in the scouting programs for her strong dedication. She held multiple positions at a given time in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts, helping young boys to the Arrow of Light and to Eagle Scout Rank, and girls to Girl Scout Gold Award. This included her daughter, two sons, and her grandsons. She was honored in receiving the Silver Beaver Award. She held many church callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, from librarian to primary teacher.
Sharon enjoyed many things in life, including quilting, crafts, needleworking, and crocheting. She made many friends while working at the Apache Motel for decades. Many visitors from around the world returned just to catch up on life and be around her sweet spirit.
She is survived by her husband, David G. Williams; her children, Amanda (Jason) Holyoak, Cory (Kayli) Williams, Brandon (Courtney) Williams, and Tiffany (Luis) Falcon, all of Moab; her sister, Allene (Michael) Fuhriman of Tremonton, Utah; and her sister, Denise (Kirk) Call of Roy, Utah. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Melvin and Valeen Shaw; her in-laws, S. Gordon and Elva Williams; and her brother-in-law, Kelly Williams.
She will be greatly missed and was loved by so many.
