Moab swimmers compete in Richfield

The Moab Sea Devils competed at the Richfield Invitational on Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20.

The Moab girls ages 9 to 10 100-yard freestyle relay took second with a total time of 1:17.98, a fraction of a second following the Vipers that placed first with a time of 1:17.51. Indy Richards, Tava Walling, Emree Olsen and Zoe Kora participated in the relay. They also placed first in the 100-yard medley relay with a total time of 1:30.83 and the 200-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 3:02.25.

Moab girls ages 13 to 14 placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 2:13.87. River Richards, London Richards, Delanee Olsen and Alex Pierce participated in the relay. They also placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 5:17.83.

Mary Kimmerle, Alexa Pierce, River Richards and London Richards placed first in the girls ages 13 to 14 200-yard medley relay with a total time of 2:22.17.

Indy Richards placed first in the 25-yard butterfly with a time of 23.72; in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 46.69; and in the 25-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.78.

Moab girls placed in the top three positions in the 25-yard breaststroke with Emree Olsen placing first with a time of 25.10; Tava Walling in second with a time of 25.13; and Zoe Kosa with a time of 25.35.

London Richards placed first in the girls ages 11 to 12 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:12.37; and the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 40:15.

Mary Kemmerle placed first in girls ages 11 to 12 50-yard butterfly with a time of 34.05, followed closely by London Richards in second with a time of 35.59. The two were also close in the 100-yard IM, with Kemmerle placing first with a time of 1:15.24 and Richards in second with a time of 1:22.65.

“London is very strong, and consistently improving at every meet. She cut several seconds in everything she swam, including the 100-yard freestyle, where she cut about 5 seconds, and her 50 Butterfly, where she cut 6 seconds,” said coach Penny Richards. “It’s fun to have Mary and London, who are great friends, push each other to improve.”

Mary Kimmerle also placed first in the girls ages 11 to 12 50-yard backstroke with a time of 33.77. She also placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.72.

“Backstroke is her best race, and she is amazing, but she’s also very fast in all the other strokes and events. She can do it all,” said coach Penny Richards of Kimmerle.

Braxten Pierce placed first in the boys ages 11 to 12 50-yard butterfly with a time of 33.9; the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.55; and the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:17.17. Pierce placed second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 35.82.

“Braxten is at the top of his age group. He also consistently improves times. Over the last year or so, he’s improved by huge amounts in every stroke,” coach Richards said.

Alexa Pierce placed first in the girls ages 13 to 14 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.57; followed closely by River Richards in second with a time of 1:22. 83. Alexa Pierce took second in the girl ages 13-14 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.13; followed closely with River Richard in third with a time of 30.03. Pierce placed first in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:13.30 and second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.45.

“Alexa is to the point where very small cuts are a big deal. She cut less than a second in her freestyle sprint races, but for someone that fast, it’s really good,” coach Richards said. “With her entering high school and competing for GCHS this Fall, I expect her to do great things.”

River Richards took second in the girls ages 13 to 14 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:28.78.

Drake Hackney placed second in the boys ages 15 to 18 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:20.73. Emree Olsen placed second in the girls ages 9 to 10 100-yard IM with a time of 1:49.69.

The next swim meet will be held here in Moab on Saturday, Aug. 6.
