After a month of gray skies, snow and rain, the skies turned blue preparing for an eagle’s final flight into the sky. On March 17, Christine Elaine Calnan took her final flight and earned the angel wings she so well deserved.
Christine was an adventurer, coming west from the flat lands of Ohio where she was born to the desert Southwest, where she made a lifelong home. From being an amazing musician, with a voice that still echoes happily in everyone’s mind, to being a collector of all things, especially rocks and tiny things, Christine brought delight into her life, as well as everyone around her. There wasn’t a secondhand store or casino that she didn’t know. Collecting was her passion, gambling was her fun. She made thrift-store shopping a fine art.
Christine’s presence was always evident in the many jobs she had in Moab, from a band member performing at Club Rio, an administrative assistant at DCFS, a clerk at many stores in Moab, to sorting donated items at WabiSabi (and buying the very best items) after her retirement.
Always the ultimate entertainer and hostess, everyone looked forward to her Christmas Eve party, where she celebrated her birthday with good food, good company and a lot of fun. She created a comfortable nest, where loved ones and strangers always felt comfortable. Christine wasn’t just a part of the Moab community, she created a community around her.
Animals were always a big part of her life. Whether it was her dog Pluto, or the many cats that came into her loving home, there wasn’t a time in her life where there wasn’t a well-cared for pet. Christine was so good at caring for pets that she was everyone’s appointed cat-sitter. She is survived by her beloved fur-babies, Chauncey and Gracie.

Christine was born to Daniel Calnan and Donna Snee on Dec. 24, 1949. She is survived by her siblings, Kelly (Scott) Buchannan; Mary Murtaugh; Michael Calnan; and Benjamin Calnan; as well as her aunts, Sharon Harris and Janice McCarroll; her step-mother, Pat Calnan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. She is also survived by the many friends that she considered to be part of her extended family. Her family would like to especially thank Dave Condie for his loving friendship with Christine, as well as being there with her during the last month of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Helen and Duane Snee; and her brother, Daniel Calnan II.
Per her wishes, Christine has been cremated and internment will take place at a later date at Grand Valley Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held later in the spring with family and friends. Condolences may be sent to www.SpanishValleyMortuary.com.
