A new hiking and biking trail opened on June 10 in Grand County. The trail has been one of Grand County Trail Mix’s main projects this spring, said Madeline Logowitz, the division manager for active transportation and trails at Grand County Trail Mix. More than 540 hours of help from volunteers went into building the new trail, Logowitz said. The trail connects the Amasa Back parking lot to the Amasa Back Trail network. Logowitz said that formerly, hikers and bikers had to park and then walk or bike along Kane Creek Road, which was developing into a safety issue with traffic. The 1.7-mile trail roughly parallels Kane Creek in the canyon bottom.
