Hallie Young Tibbitts passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 6. Tibbitts was born on Aug. 13, 1925, to M.H. Young and Ina M. Helquist in Blanding. She was the second of six children.
In 1938, M.H. and Ina bought the South Mesa Ranch in the La Sal Mountains. In 1940, her family moved to Moab, which is where Tibbitts lived out the vast majority of her 93 years of life.
She married her high school sweetheart Robert Tibbitts on Feb. 19, 1944, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, before he was deployed in WWII. She traveled from Montana to Arkansas on a bus to marry him in the winter of 1944. That was no easy feat. She stayed with him in Arkansas until he deployed and then she returned to Moab. They were married for 73 years. Born of this union were five children: Robert (Lynn) Tibbitts; Stephen, also known as Cap (Diane) Tibbitts; Nancy (Wayne) Inskeep; Susan (Mike) Swasey; and Jennifer (Rholand) Murphy.
Tibbitts was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her sister, Mildred; as well as her siblings, Max and Kay. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mike Swasey; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Tibbitts; grandson, Carson Swasey; and great-granddaughter’s, Zoey Swasey and Haven McCandless.
Tibbitts is survived by her sister, Inalynn Meador, and her brother, Curt Young, in addition to a very large and loving family, which includes her five children, 19 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
One of her greatest joys was her family and she watched it grow with pride. She made a monumental impact on every life that she touched with her unconditional love, knowledge and strength. She passed on her strong family values, and was proud member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She will be dearly missed by all but she will live on in the hearts of her friends and family.
The viewing was held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Spanish Valley Mortuary, 386 N. 100 West, at 6:30 p.m. The service will be held on Thursday, Sept.13 at the LDS Stake Center on 701 Locust Lane at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
