Thanks to the support of its local and visiting patrons – and proceeds from annual benefit events – the Moab Music Festival funded a second round of Music Student Scholarships on Sept. 3 at its free Rocky Mountain Power Labor Day Concert at Old City Park.
Initiated in 2017 in celebration of the festival’s 25th season, festival organizers plan to award these scholarships annually, pending financial support for them. The awards are intended to aid local music students in grades two through 12 with private music lessons or attendance at accredited music camps as they strive to advance their skills beyond the classroom. Each round includes five scholarships of $300 per student. The 2018 scholarship recipients include: Josie Wakefield, flute and piccolo; Isabel Becerra, tenor saxophone; Elias Patterson, cello; Khloey Frandsen, violin and piano; and Acel Hall, violin.
Students interested in a music student scholarship can apply at the end of each school year through a simple form available on the festival’s website at moabmusicfest.org, and through local music teachers. Recipients are selected over the summer and awarded funds on Labor Day; they have one year to use award funding.
