Steven Clark Nicol was born on June 19, 1945, in Moab to John and Gladys Nicol. Nicol passed away on Nov. 7 in the loving home of his son, Patrick.
He graduated from Grand County High School. Nicol married Gayle Greenwell in 1969 and later
divorced. He married Debbie King in 1976 and later divorced. Nicol and Debbie were blessed with two children, Patrick and Joshua. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was trained as a heavy equipment operator. He used this training as he served in the Vietnam War. He worked in the mining industry after returning to civilian life. In 1973, he was injured in a mining explosion resulting in the loss of his right hand and left eye. He became a journeyman welder in Maryland, where he excelled at his trade. Returning to Moab in 1994, he worked at City Market until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys, and his two brothers, John and Louie. He is survived by his sons, Patrick and Joshua; sister, Nina Groth; stepdaughter, Angie; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral service for Nicol will be on Thursday, Nov. 15, at noon at the Spanish Valley Mortuary, 386 N. 100 West. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 15, from 11 to 11:45 a.m.
Nicol was blessed with a loving family; Rose, a good friend; and many other friends throughout his
life. He will be greatly missed.
