Joseph Phillip Cardon Jr., 1937 – 2017

Joseph Phillip Cardon Jr. passed away on March 1, 2017, at Moab Regional Hospital.

Phil was born in Allison, Colorado, on March 17, 1937, to Joseph Phillip Cardon and Anna Marie Rothlisberger. He grew up in Durango, Colorado. He was the oldest son of eight children. He graduated from Durango High School. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kentucky and Tennessee. He attended Bakers School in Arlington, Texas. He married Muriel Dene Mason on April 28, 1962, and they had three children. He worked in bakeries in Durango and Moab. He retired from the City Market Bakery in Moab after 40 years in 2003.

In Moab, he was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings. He and his wife served in the Monticello, Utah, Temple. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening. He loved to build things and was very industrious.

He is survived by his wife Dene of Moab; two sons, Joseph Lavar (Susie) of Oklahoma, and Phillip Lavar (Lulie) of Michigan; siblings Anita Cardon (Edward) Simmons, Neil R. (Sandra) Cardon, Boyd Louis (Terri) Cardon, Royal Lavar (Marilyn) Cardon, Ruland Kent (Susan) Cardon; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Janet Lynn; and his sisters, Loree Cardon (Dale) Morton and Ellen Cardon (Lynn) Young.

Funeral services were held on Monday March 6, 2017, at the Moab LDS 400 North Chapel. A viewing was held on Sunday, March 5, 2017.
