It’s not every day that one of the best guitarists in the world comes to perform in Moab.
However, on Friday, Sept. 22, that is precisely what is happening. Montreal, Quebec-based guitarist Antoine Dufour is known colloquially among the top guitar players in the world as a musician’s musician. To fans of popular music, he deftly combines jaw-dropping guitar playing skills and artistic soul. His instrumental compositions reflect both ambient and progressive music. He has performed sold-out shows across the globe.
In addition to receiving worldwide acclaim for his Guitar Master’s international tours, Dufour also has a local connection to Moab. He has engineered and performed on three albums with local Moab artist Scott Ibex over the last four years. The albums they made have been showcased on KZMU Community Radio and garnered the attention of the largest record label in the world for solo-acoustic guitar, Candyrat Records.
On Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. the two musicians will perform together for the first time ever with Candyrat Records recording artist Ian Ethan Case at Star Hall, 159 E. Center St.
“Working with a musical genius like Antoine Dufour was not only a dream of mine, but as an artist, it inspired me to apply my talents beyond what I thought my abilities were,” Ibex said. “On Sept. 22, I hope and pray for a full theater to celebrate the rewards of what can happen to a local musician who went after his dream of working with the best in world. I can’t wait to do this in front of my beloved hometown of Moab.”
The concert is sponsored by the Moab Arts Council, which will be providing free tickets for BEACON Afterschool Program’s students at the middle school program site.
“We are excited that the Moab Arts Council has extended the opportunity for BEACON’s middle schoolers to attend this concert with their families,” BEACON Program Manager Kaitlin Thomas said. “Exposure to the arts can draw up new interests, promote the process of self-discovery in youth, and instigate getting directly involved in the arts themselves. It is also a great way to show kids the different people we can become; maybe some of them will leave thinking, ‘I could be a guitar player too!’ There is always room for more young musicians in the world.”
