Grand County High School’s students of the month for March 2016 are Lindsay Farnsworth and Christopher Marquez.
Farnsworth is the daughter of Robert and Celeste Farnsworth. She said her favorite class at GCHS is drama.
“I love drama because it throws me out of my comfort zone, and it’s the only place I can act weird and get away with it,” she said.
Farnsworth said her most challenging class is Math 1050.
Farnsworth starred as Millie in “Thoroughly Modern Millie” in 2014 and participated in the fall musical all four years. She was on the girls soccer team, and she’s currently president of drama, Honor Society and the HOPE club.
Outside of Grand County High School, Farnsworth serves as the Laurel class president for her church and is also on the seminary youth council. Farnsworth just started working at the Sand Flats Recreation Area.
After high school, Farnsworth wants to work in association with international language programs.
“I’m going to Lithuania to teach kids English this fall,” she said, adding, “In spring 2017, I’ll be attending Snow College.”
Marquez is the son of Esteban and Madel Refugio Marquez. He said his favorite classes at GCHS are English and accounting.
“English has been a big challenge for me, because I didn’t speak English two years ago,” he said, adding, “Accounting has been a big challenge for this big world of business.”
Marquez has never been in school activities because he just moved to Grand County High School at the beginning of the school year. However, he is playing soccer this spring.
Outside of Grand County High School, Marquez loves going to the gym to work out. Marquez is currently working at the Peace Tree Cafe.
After high school, Marquez said he wants to work with his father to open a restaurant and car wash, and eventually make it into a big company. Once that goal is finished, Marquez wants to learn Italian as a third language and travel with his family.
The local Elks Lodge sponsors Grand County High School’s Student of the Month program under the direction of Frank Vaccaro. Jeff Richards is the high school coordinator. The Elks started the program to recognize students who are outstanding in the areas of character, leadership, service, citizenship and scholastic performance.The Rotary Club and the Grand County School District Board of Education also recognize the students.
