Cosmo’s Corner: Cozy Winter Movie Time at the Library!

Cozy cat in plaid blanket with bowl of popcorn, setting a relaxing mood with warm lights in the background.

To my fellow cinephiles:

Meow, folks! I’m ba-ack! Cats and humans don’t typically hibernate during winter, but not because we don’t want to! The closest we can often get is curling up with a good book. Grand County Public Library offers lots of those! And while there’s no place like home, sometimes it’s fun to do something cozy alongside others, and that’s where movies come in.

Fridays are early-out for most Grand County students and what better way to spend a winter afternoon than hanging with friends, watching movies, and eating snacks? Fridays at 2:00 p.m. (unless we’re closed for a holiday), we will fire up the popcorn machine and show a Family-friendly Film at the Grand County Public Library for all to enjoy—an offer you cannot refuse! This month’s line-up includes Happy Feet, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and—an old favorite—The Muppet Christmas Carol!

And for grownups, Classic Movie Nights are starting up again for the winter. On Friday, December 19th at 7:00 p.m., we’ll begin the series with a free screening of the 1941 noir classic The Maltese Falcon, starring Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor, with an appearance by the inimitable Peter Lorre. Plus, light refreshments will be served. Truly, the stuff that dreams are made of.

If library movie screenings don’t fit into your schedule, the force is still with you! You can choose from among our selection of hundreds of DVDs and Blu-rays. We even have Blu-ray/DVD players for loan. No need to show us the money—it’s all free with your library account!

So, carpe diem! Seize the day and join us for some cinematic sessions at the library! Bye for now… to infinity and beyond!
