The Moab Red Devils high school mountain bike team captured the Utah Division 2 state championship this weekend in Cedar City, marking the program’s third state title in four years and their first since moving up to Division 2 competition.
The championship races took place October 17-18 at Three Peaks Recreation Area, where 2,500 riders from across the state converged to compete in multiple categories.
Senior Elliet Johnson-Trim led the Red Devils’ charge, taking third place in varsity girls and serving as the team’s top point scorer. Her performance helped secure the championship for Moab in their first season at the higher division level.
The team’s success was particularly impressive given the youth on the roster. Three freshmen scored in the team’s top eight riders—the number whose points counted toward team results.
Individual results:
- Elliet Johnson-Trim (SR): 3rd, varsity girls
- Liesel Hays (FR): 6th, JVA girls
- Bowdie Parker (SR): 21st, varsity boys
- Pierson Vagts (SR): 34th, varsity boys
- Conner Prickett (SO): 8th, JVB boys
- Nona Hadler (FR): 9th, JVB girls
- Andrea Thompson (FR): 14th, JVB girls
- Flint Lugers (SO): 27th, JVA boys
The championship caps a strong season for the Red Devils, who consistently placed first in Division 2 throughout the year despite missing key riders at times. The team’s depth proved crucial, with younger riders stepping up when needed.
The Red Devils previously won state championships while competing in Division 3. Weather caused the cancellation of the 2024 state championship.
The team will celebrate their victory with a fire truck ride down Main Street on Tuesday, October 21 at 4 p.m.
“Any student from grades 7-12 is welcome and encouraged to join the mountain bike team next season,” said coach Patrick Trim. “Team loaner bikes are available if needed.”
