Congrats to Aylah and Estelle, Margaret L. Hopkin Middle School Students of the Month!

Margaret L. Hopkin Middle School announced their choices for students of the month: Aylah Stocks-Dalton and Estelle Surkes!

Staff says that seventh-grader Aylah has “consistently shown what it means to be a true leader in our school community.” Not only is she a hardworking student who gives her best effort in every class, but she’s also incredibly helpful to her classmates, always willing to lend a hand with a difficult problem or pick up a dropped book without being asked. What really makes Aylah stand out is her kindness and consideration for everyone around her, from her teachers to the cafeteria staff. It’s clear to see that she thinks about others and makes our school a better and friendlier place to be. Aylah’s favorite animal is a sugar glider and her favorite color is sunset yellow. She has two guinea pigs named Sammy and Potato, and she knows how to stilt walk! Aylah has a 9-month-old brother and she was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome. Her advice to others is “Be like Dory and just keep swimming!”

Eighth-grade student Estelle consistently demonstrates exceptional engagement and dedication in all her lessons. Staff say that she is “locked in,” asking insightful questions and sharing thoughtful observations that enrich class discussions. Always willing to read aloud, Estelle shows confidence and enthusiasm in participating. She holds herself to a high standard on every assignment, showing strong self-motivation and a commitment to excellence. Beyond her academic achievements, Estelle is polite, conscientious, and respectful toward her peers. She sets a positive example in the classroom through her thoroughness, active participation, and exemplary behavior. Estelle truly embodies what it means to be a successful student and is a role model for others to follow. Estelle loves basketball and skiing, and she is on the cross country team and is really good at it. She loves traveling, reading, and sports. Mangos are her favorite fruit, and her favorite places she’s been to are Costa Rica and New York. Her advice to others is “Working hard pays off!”

Congratulations to Aylah and Estelle!
